Perspective on risk and statistics

Given the intense media interest in the associations between intake of processed meat and life-expectancy, it is appropriate to consider how the general public perceive such risks and the general misunderstanding of the statistics that are bandied about. Thomas Lumley of the University of Auckland has produced this blog post, which gives a very helpful perspective. One  50g serving of processed meat is equivalent to smoking 4 cigarettes- what a useful tool for communicating risk to the public!
